Time honored cattle-raising traditions with modern ingenuity to produce high quality beef

About Us

Hodgen Farms is a multiple generation farm in central Indiana where we raise primarily row crops. To improve the health of the soil, we utilize cover crops. That’s where our cows come in! To make cover crops somewhat financially feasible, we use them as winter and early spring forage for the cows. Win-win!

For years, we finished out enough steers for our family and a few friends to take home a freezer full of beef. In 2020, we decided to keep a lot of the calves after weaning and take a stab at selling freezer beef.

So what we have now are farmers with animal science, ag economics, soil science, and meat science backgrounds raising cattle to provide you and your family & friends a juicy burger, a memory-making steak, and a soul-warming roast. Beef you can put your faith in was raised with love and stewardship of the land.

Our Beef

Our cattle are raised right here in Indiana and finished on grain and hay from our farms.

We use Indiana processors who are state and/or USDA inspected*. Since we ourselves love the dry aged tenderness and flavor, our beef is aged at the packer to give you the same sensory experience.

*All cuts for retail or individual package sales are processed at a USDA facility.

We enjoy beef with a lot of marbling so strive to raise and manage cattle that will grade premium choice or better to ensure a great eating experience.

Order Now

We know customers have different desires for specific beef cuts so our most popular option is buying a 1/2 or whole animal and having the butcher cut it exactly how you want it. But we know sometimes your freezer isn’t that big or you aren’t feeding hungry teenagers and need smaller amounts.

The 100lb bundle (think a mini version of a 1/4 of all the cuts in an animal) or just buying a few roasts, hamburger, or steaks may be a better fit, both for your budget and your freezer.

We have retail cuts, bundles, 1/2 and whole beefs available at various times of the year. Please contact us for more information on how to enjoy your own Hodgen Farms Beef!

Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness.”
